MONROE - A Belleville man remains free on a $10,000 signature bond after making his initial appearance Thursday in Green County Circuit Court for sexual assault charges.

Derrick P. Nipple, 21, is charged with first-degree sexual assault/great bodily harm, a class B felony, and second-degree sexual assault of a child, a class C felony. He faces 100 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines, if convicted.

According to New Glarus Police Chief Steve Allbaugh, the New Glarus Police Department received a complaint Jan. 6 that a 14-year-old female had been sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old man. After a two-month investigation, which was assisted by Green County District Attorney Gary Luhman and the Wisconsin Crime Lab, Nipple was identified as the offender.

Nipple was taken into custody Wednesday and made his initial appearance in court Thursday before Green County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Vale.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 15.
