BRODHEAD - Arlene Vivian (Roen) Riemer, age 86, passed away on August 24, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. She was born on September 11, 1922 in Plymouth Township, Rock County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gilman and Myrtle (Mahlum) Roen. She attended Haugan School and graduated from Orfordville High School in 1940, attending Beloit Vocational School and worked at Yates American as a payroll clerk and later at APCO Manufacturing for 6 years.
Ben Riemer and Arlene were married on November 26, 1943 at Luther Valley Lutheran Church. They farmed on Ben's family farm in Decatur Township in Green County before moving to Brodhead in 1984. She was very active at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, WI, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, served on the Church Council and was a member of the Women's organization and Rebecca Circle. She also served as liaison to Skaalen Sunset Home in Stoughton for 33 years. Other organization in which she belonged were Church Women United, Christian Women's Club, charter member of Green County National Farms Organization, Decatur 4-H leader, Brodhead Historical Society, Brodhead Senior Center, and Hi Neighbor Homemakers Club.
Arlene enjoyed sewing and was known to the family as the Humpty Lady, quilting, crocheting, camping, playing cards, cooking and baking. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the joy in her life. She was often ready to help shut-ins and friends in her community.
She is survived by her husband, Ben; three daughters, Bergene Cowan, Baraboo, WI, Vickie (Ed) Dorst, Appleton, WI, Linda (Roaul) Wuethrich, Baraboo; three sons, Duane Riemer, Robert (Tammy) Riemer, both of Brodhead, Joe (Deborah) Riemer, Marshfield, WI; a brother, Roger (Lois) Roen, Beloit; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sandra (John) Popanz; and a great-granddaughter, Brittany Popanz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead. Burial will be in Gap Cemetery, Decatur Township. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI.
