MONROE - The Green County Treasurer's office, along with the Wisconsin County Treasurer's Association and supported by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, is dedicating the week of May 11 to 15 to verify that all eligible real property owners received the lottery credit on their 2014 tax bills.
Last year the average lottery credit in Green County was approximately $127. The exact amount is based on the school district in which the home is located.
To qualify, the home owner must be a Wisconsin resident and use the dwelling as his primary residence as of the certification date of Jan. 1, 2014. If temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than six months, it is the home to which the owner returns. Principal dwelling means any dwelling used by the owner as his primary residence. A property owner may claim only one primary residence.
The lottery credit can only be obtained by having a signed application on file. Contact the county treasurer's office at 608-328-9435 for more information. If you are an eligible property owner who did not receive the credit, the treasurer's office will help you complete the paperwork and file forms with the Department of Revenue to claim the late lottery credit and ensure that the credit is applied to your 2015 tax bill.
If you are eligible for the lottery credit and not sure if you received it, check the Green County website, www.co.green.wi.gov. There are instructions to help determine if you received the lottery credit; click on the link for 2014 Lottery Credit Information.
If you did not receive the credit and you meet the qualifications, follow the instructions on how to file for the late lottery credit, or contact the treasurer's office at 608-328-9435, or by email to shawkins@greencountywi.org. The treasurer's office will assist you in completing the necessary paperwork to receive the credit for this year and on next year's tax bill.
If you were not a resident of your property on Jan. 1, 2014 but were as of Jan. 1, 2015 you may qualify for the credit on your 2015 tax bill. You should complete the 2015 application to receive that credit. The application, along with instructions, can be obtained on the county's website by clicking on 2015 Lottery Credit Application.
