TOWN OF YORK — An armed robbery that resulted in the theft of a Chevrolet Equinox at a residence northwest of New Glarus on May 20 remained under investigation the following day, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

The complainant, who is the vehicle owner, reported the incident shortly before 2 p.m.

Two armed men stole the vehicle near the intersection of Wisconsin 39 and County J before heading toward the Madison area. The men and the vehicle owner know each other. None are Green County residents and their reasoning for being at the residence was unclear.

The theft appears to be related to “some type of monetary dispute” between them, Chief Deputy Tom Moczynski said. Detectives believe it is a targeted crime and there is no danger to the local community.

The Chevrolet Equinox was later recovered in Cottage Grove and returned to the owner, Moczynski said.
