MONROE — For the 29th consecutive year, Monroe Arts Center will be holding its photography contest and exhibit. The contest is open to nonprofessional photographers and participants are not required to be Wisconsin residents.
Photographs entered in this contest will be on exhibit in MAC’s Frehner Gallery from Aug. 31 to Oct. 19. An opening reception for this exhibit is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 31, with an awards presentation at 6 p.m.
The two classifications for the contest are adult and junior, for age 17 and younger. There are no categories and no limit to the number of photographs that can be entered. There is an entry fee. The awards in the adult classification are $125/best of show, $75/first place, $50/second place, $25/third place, and ribbon awards for fourth and fifth place. The awards in the junior classification are $50/best of show, $30/first place, $25/second place, $20/third place, and ribbon awards for fourth and fifth place. Honorable mention ribbons may be given in both classifications. All photographs must have been taken after September 2017. The deadline to enter is Aug. 10.
Photographer and artist Heather Wetzel will serve as the judge for this contest.
Her exhibition titled “Salvage” will be on display Aug. 31 to Oct. 19 in MAC’s Wellington and Muranyi Galleries.
