MONROE - Point Five Band will be performing at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at Union Presbyterian Church, 2707 5th St., Monroe.
Based in Mineral Point, Point Five plays acoustic music with an emphasis on Americana, folk, old-time, bluegrass, alternative country, originals and gospel, often blending these genres with unique arrangements. Point Five has been highlighted on WPR's Simply Folk and frequently plays Dodgeville and Mineral Point bars and southwestern Wisconsin stages. The band consists of Monica Dunn (lead vocals), Aaron Dunn (lead vocals, harmony vocals, rhythm guitar), Paul Biere (banjo, Dobro), Andy Hatch (mandolin), Carole Spelic (double bass) and Meghan Dudle (fiddle and vocals).
The band moves seamlessly through an array of songs and acoustic styles with creativity and verve, according to a news release. Its 2014 release "Pecatonica" conjures up picturesque scenes of local landscape and explores the ideas of place and home, along with themes of rejuvenation and the effort love demands.
The concert is planned for the lawn, so folding chairs or blankets are recommended. Limited seating on folding chairs will be available on the paved driveway. There is no admission charge but free-will donations are welcomed. Soft drinks and water will be available. In the event of rain, the event will move to the sanctuary. For more information, contact the church at 608-325-2519 or unionpresoffice@tds.net.
