MONROE - The Monroe City Band will present their annual Variety Show and Dance at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Turner Hall in Monroe. Tickets are available at Ruf's Confectionery; from Monroe City Band members; or at the door on the night of the show. The 18-piece group will play two sets. All seats are cabaret-style, general admission and cost $6. There will be room for dancing, and refreshments will be available.

The "Music of Miller, And More" theme represents big-band music from the great bandleader and his contemporaries, including Benny Goodman, Harry James, Count Basie, Stan Kenton and others, with some Dixieland-era tunes included for good measure. Area favorite Judy Knudtson will sing with the band, and Bill Rients from the "Stone Ring" band will serve as Master of Ceremonies and announcer. The City Band is in its 61st season, and is currently directed by Randy Schneeberger. For more information, call the Monroe City Band at 325-9722.
