The highlight of the evening, shared by 70 people, was honoring the Spirit Award recipients. This award is given annually to an organization, business or individual who have been strong supporters and advocates of the programming for those wanting to learn English. This year's recipients were the Monroe Public Library staff; Dr. Lance and Daphne Sathoff family; Colony Brands, Inc.; and Chris Knuteson.

The Literacy Council of Green County will host tutor training from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28. For more information on the literacy program, call the library at (608) 328-7010 or e-mail executive director Ellen Hossman at eehossman@ yahoo.com.
