MONROE - It's prime time at the Green County Humane Society with a Senior Special intended to match loving, mature dogs and cats with loving, mature households.
"This is a perfect opportunity for senior citizens looking for feline or canine companionship," said shelter director Tonya Kelley. "It's well known that pet ownership helps people live longer, more fulfilling lives. And by adopting an older pet, senior citizens can enjoy the benefits of having a pet without the high energy demands of a young puppy or kitten."
For a limited time, seniors 55 years and older can adopt a senior dog or cat from GCHS and have the adoption fee waived. Dogs 8 years and older and cats 9 years and older are eligible for the Senior Special. Standard adoption requirements apply. GCHS encourages senior citizens to visit its Web site, www.greencountyhumane.org, or visit the shelter to see available animals.
GCHS also is offering a 2-for-1 special on cats and kittens for adopters of all ages. Kittens up to 1 year old can be adopted for $32, or two kittens for $63. Two adult cats can be adopted for $30, or one adult cat for $15.
All animals adopted from GCHS have been seen by an area veterinarian and are up-to-date on vaccinations. Animals that are old enough have been spayed or neutered. All adoptions are pending an approved application by GCHS.
Anyone considering adding a feline family member is encouraged to come to the GCHS shelter and find their "purr-fect" companion. Outdoor adoptions also are available to approved homes; contact GCHS for more information.
The GCHS shelter is at 1500 6th Ave. in Monroe. Hours of operation are from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. It is closed Monday, Wednesday and holidays.
More information about the shelter, making financial contributions and animals needing adoption is available on the GCHS Web site at www.greencountyhumane.org or by calling 325-9600.
