MONROE - The Monroe Theatre Guild announces auditions for its production of "A Christmas Carol."

This third annual production, in collaboration with the Monroe Arts Center, will move performances to the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center Stage for this new adaptation. This year's production was adapted from the classic Charles Dickens story by Father Michael Klarer, pastor of St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Father Klarer's passion for Dickens' work inspired him to create his first theatrical adaptation of this time-honored, seasonal favorite.

Auditions for the role of Scrooge were held last June, and John Baumann of Monroe will be filling the miserly shoes of Ebeneezer Scrooge. The remainder of the cast will be auditioned from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Auditions will be at the Monroe Theatre Guild STAGE building, 910 16th Ave. Many parts, both speaking and non-speaking, are available for children (ages 7 and up) through adults. This year's production will include a multi-part choral group, so singers also are encouraged to audition. Auditions will consist of group movement activities and reading from the script. Those interested in singing parts should be prepared to sing some basic scales to determine vocal range. Perusal scripts will be available for checkout at the Monroe Public Library as of Tuesday, Sept. 8.

This special production will be directed by David Bristow of Monroe, with Joe Peters, also of Monroe, serving as assistant director. Performances will be at the MHS Performing Arts Center on Dec.12-13 and 17-20. For questions or to arrange an alternate audition time, contact Dave at (608) 558-9056 or e-mail monroetheatre@tds.net. Tickets are on sale now through the Monroe Arts Center box office at 325-5700.
