The United Way of Green County makes a significant difference in supporting as many as twenty-seven non-for-profit agencies countywide. The Green County Human Services Home Delivered Meals Program is one such program that is fortunate to receive United Way support. The Green County Home Delivered Meals Program is the primary provider of home delivered meals in Green County. Six Senior Dining Centers in Monroe, New Glarus, Monticello, Albany, Brodhead and Belleville deliver the meals. United Way helps us to provide a hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors. Special Diets that meet special needs such as Cardiac, Renal, Diabetic, Lactose Intolerant, Soft and Low Sodium are available to participants in Monroe, Brodhead and Albany. We think of our program as more than just food, it's an opportunity for individuals to receive a social contact from someone and provide a safety check.
Home Delivered Meal Programs are one of the largest prevention programs in the nation. Nutrition plays such an important role in preventing or slowing the progression of many diseases such as osteoporosis and diabetes. Some studies have even shown a link between healthy eating and the reduced incidence of such diseases as Alzheimer's disease and cancer. It is with United Way support that we can continue providing this valuable, preventative service to older adults and persons with disabilities here in Green County.
Volunteers deliver all meals and they deliver over 22,000 meals to over two hundred individuals per year. In a time where we are seeing dramatic increases in costs and services along with decreased State and Federal funding, United Way funding is critical in our ability to continue to provide nutritious meals. We at Green County Human Services ask you, "Have you given to your local United Way campaign? If so, we thank you, if not, please consider the impact your contribution will have on our community. So many depend on your generosity.
