To the Editor:
Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to drop. However, the approval rating of Kamala Harris isn’t just dropping, it is careening over the cliff. Harris, who is supposed to be handling the illegal immigration crisis at our Southern border (so far, she has made only one trip down there), has become a real embarrassment to the administration. As a result, rumors are swirling around that as soon as there is a Supreme Court vacancy, Biden will appoint her to fill it. That way Biden could honor his pledge to name a black woman to the Court and, more importantly, get Harris out of his administration.
The proposed appointment is a very bad idea. The Supreme Court is the premier example of where ability and not race must be the only factor in making an appointment. Under no circumstances should the Court be used as a dumping ground for someone who has turned out to be a dud in an administration.
It is known that a great many of Biden’s appointments have been based solely on race rather than ability. That is one of the reasons why his administration is floundering. The Supreme Court is too important to be handled that way.
It is understandable why Biden would want to get rid of Harris. A good way to accomplish that would be to appoint her to a non-controversial ambassadorship such as Luxembourg or Finland. She could do no harm there, and after her term was over, she might be able to land a job at some Foundation. It is unlikely that any good law firm would want her.
