The students of the New Glarus School District benefit greatly from the programming supported by the United Way of Green County. The programming and support ranges from very basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter to fun activities for children who are from families who can't afford the fees for their participation. Some specific examples of how the United Way has benefited students in the New Glarus School District include:
Two students were provided camperships to Wisconsin Badger Camp
Big Brothers/Big Sisters had both community matches and school-based matches, for a total of 60 participants last year
Forty three elementary students attended the March performance of "Junie B. Jones" and 151 middle school students attended the April performance of "My Heart in a Suitcase," with free admission being provided by Performance In Our Schools
Six families were provided free assistance in finding regulated childcare through Community Coordinated Childcare (4-C)
Approximately 17 New Glarus students per month received food from Green Cares Food Pantry
Six families were provided membership assistance at the YMCA of Green County and additional individual YMCA program assistance was given as well
Ten middle school students attended a Lutheran Social Services-Runaway and Youth Services Program conference called "Branching Out" at Folk Lore Village that focused on prevention, health and wellness
Fowler Dental Clinic provided free dental service to children of families with financial need
Lutheran Social Services provided free counseling and family mediation services to families
The Homelessness Prevention Coalition and Family Promise served families from New Glarus
We are extremely thankful for the work of the Green County United Way in New Glarus. The programming and support truly makes a difference in the lives of our families and community.
