New Glarus

To the editor:

After three years of planning and preparation, Saengerfest 2015 is now complete and guests to the community from Canada, Switzerland and the United States all enjoyed a wonderful festival. The beauty of the area, friendliness of the people, perfect weather and organization were paramount in the success of this event. The Saengerfest 2015 Organizing Committee has received many communications from participants congratulating the community for such a warm reception and experience.

While Mannerchor New Glarus was identified as the official host of the event, it would not have been possible without the assistance of sponsors, volunteers, New Glarus Chamber of Commerce, Swiss Center of North America and especially the assistance of everyone in the community and area. The Mannerchor, along with the Jodlerklub New Glarus and organizing committee wish to sincerely thank everyone for all of the support and assistance.

As a way of saying thank you, the Mannerchor New Glarus wishes to invite everyone to attend the annual Volksfest Celebration on Sunday, Aug. 2 and enjoy the success of Saengerfest 2015. There will be no admission for the event this year.

Volksfest celebrates Swiss Independence and the birth of the Swiss nation achieved in 1291. Volksfest continues to honor Swiss heritage through music, food and folklore. Performers include the Monroe Swiss Singers, Nancy Streiff, Tony Zgraggen, Ernst Jaggi, Tim Pauli and others, as well as performances by the Green County Alphorns, New Glarus Kinderchor, Mannerchor New Glarus and Jodlerklub New Glarus.

Volksfest is held annually on the first Sunday in August at the Tell Shooting Park. Grounds open at noon with pre-program music at 1 p.m. A program of Swiss and ethnic music begins at 1:30. Food (brats, hot dogs and landjaegers) and refreshments (beer, water and soda) will be available for purchase.
