To the editor:
I am proud to openly endorse Amy Bazley's bid for re-election to the Monroe school board. Growing up in Monroe, I received a quality education that prepared me well to achieve my goal of a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Monroe continues to strive to differentiate our educational programs with a keen eye to balance that education with community outreach, the arts, and sports.
Karen and I moved back to Monroe in 2003 with our three children. Shortly after our return to Monroe, we became acquainted with the Bazley family through our children attending Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. We found we had a number of common views of our schools and possible areas of beneficial growth. Amy Bazley chose to get involved, was appointed to the school board in 2008 and has been a strong, fair, open minded, and staunch advocate for the continued growth and long term vision for Monroe Schools.
Karen and I are proud to have two graduates (Class of 2011 and 2013) who are successfully pursuing college degrees. The changes we have seen, in the educational program structure, have been impressive and pivotal in the development of our children. Introduction of Advanced Placement curriculum allows students to earn college credits and decrease the amount of time needed to achieve their higher education degrees. Weighted grading was another progressive move implemented for the class of 2016 and provides incentive with a current measure for all students in their peer group that is on pace with districts around Wisconsin.
I am proud of the work our school district has done to keep our children competitive in these ever changing times. We are lucky to have quality leaders like Amy Bazley, Bob Erb, and Mary Berger on our school board. My vote will be to keep them working for our children and their future. I call to my fellow Cheesemaker parents to vote with me as well.
