Can't we get along with one another for just one evening? I guess not as on one of the most merry and joyful nights of the year another church decided to confront the fine families attending St. Victor's parish with their so-called "truths." I was so disappointed to be faced with hatred by another "Christian" church on Christmas Eve.
As families were heading in to the wonderful services offered at St. Victor's in Monroe, there were members of the Pilgim Covenant Church passing out brochures. These tracts explained all that they saw to be wrong with the church that we had chosen to attend and how we misunderstand the bible, that we both use for worship.
There is a time and place for theological discussions but standing on another church's doorstep on one of the most beautiful and holy nights of the year is not appropriate. If you want to discuss theology and convert people to your beliefs, offer vacation bible school, have a community supper, or place an advertisement in the paper. Show people the positive side of your church by helping out in these difficult times, (there is a need for more help at the food pantries, homeless shelters, etc). I don't know what purpose the Pilgrim Covenant Church sought to achieve by confronting our beliefs on Christmas eve but I think their time could have been better spent tending their own flock and spending time loving their families instead of spreading hate to ours.
