On behalf of the Monroe girls' basketball team and various MHS organizations, we would like to send out a blossom to everyone who was part of the "Hoops for Haiti" fundraiser. It wouldn't have been such a great success without the help of so many people. A special thank you to those individuals and businesses who donated to the cause. The grand total for the event was $5,361 which was more than we ever could have imagined. Thank you all for helping make a difference to those in need. - Jamie Armstrong

A blossom to the Monroe Clinic for hiring out of town companies to build the new $85 million hospital. These companies have brought in many out of town workers that frequent Monroe stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels and bars. Any new business during these hard economic times is greatly appreciated. - Anonymous

A big barb to the mayor and the public works committee for canceling the spring clean up days, especially with a slush fund of $5.5 million. If you want to save money, don't hire all the subcontractors to help with cleanup. Just have the street department and other available city employees pick up the trash in the last week in April and the first week in May. We sure hope you reconsider. - Signed by several upset taxpayers wanting clean up days back

A blossom to all the firefighters who have to criss-cross Green County put out all these grass fires. - Safer because of them

A big barb to CBS for cutting coverage of the first round of the NCAA tournament to show afternoon talk shows. Who cares what Oprah thinks when there is perfectly good college basketball on? I for one would rather watch analysts discuss the games than watch Oprah discuss social issues. Let's put pressure on CBS to give us what we want. - college basketball fan

A barb to the weather man for predicting the terrible weekend weather we are supposed to get this weekend. I want 60 degrees and sunny back. - Dreaming

A blossom to the City of Monroe for not raising water rates 29 percent. We can't afford to be taxed any more than we already have been. - Had enough
