Once again the Christmas Stocking tradition, which started almost 60 years ago, continues in Monroe lending a hand to families in need during the holidays.
With the assistance of generous community volunteers, Christmas Stocking helps children receive clothes, boots, shoes, coats and toys they might not have otherwise. Families are given food for a "holiday" meal, including specially packed Christmas cookies for an added treat. Seniors enjoy a gift, cookies and fruit and are reminded that they are cared about especially when they might be alone during the holiday season.
It takes many hours and hundreds of volunteers to help out the 750 children and over 300 families who are recipients of Christmas Stocking. Shoppers, cookie bakers, toy drives, packers, deliverers and money donations are all part of how Christmas Stocking works and it wouldn't be possible without all the support from our generous community.
We can not express our appreciation enough to all those that volunteer their time and give monetary donations to Christmas Stocking. It is wonderful to have so many thoughtful and giving individuals, businesses, churches, organizations and school groups who want to "give back" and are involved in this annual project. We are truly blessed here in Monroe.
The Monroe Woman's Club Christmas Stocking Committee includes, Sue Barrett, Mary Deininger. Katheryn Etter, Kathy Reffue and Jennifer Spielman.
