Paulson propels MHS

MONROE — After a back-and-forth loss to Baraboo the night prior, Monroe bounced back with a 7-3 win over Sauk Prairie on Wednesday, May 10. 

The Cheesemakers got on the board in the second with a three-run inning. Sophie Golembiewski led off with a single to center, and Olivia Feller moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Katie Witt, Sydnee Conway and Chesney Slotten then hit three straight singles. Kate Kundert’s sacrifice fly gave Monroe a 2-0 lead, and Kaegann Paulson added on with an RBI single.

The Eagles got within one run in the top of the sixth, but the Cheesemakers responded with a four-run bottom of the sixth. Witt led off with a single and Conway was hit by a pitch. Slotten then lined a two-run single to left. Kundert moved Slotten into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, and Paulson drove her home with a triple to left. Golembiewski put Monroe ahead 7-2 with an infield single.

Paulson closed out the game by striking out the side in the seventh.

Paulson and Golembiewski led the team with three hits each, while Slotten and Paulson drove in two runs. On the mound, Paulson gave up just four hits for one earned run. She struck out 11 and walked four.


Baraboo spoils Senior Night

MONROE — Despite a seven-run sixth, Monroe fell to Baraboo 11-9 on Senior Night. The Cheesemakers tallied nine hits, six of which came from Paulson, Witt and Slotten. Brinley Roidt tallied a double each and drove in a combined six runs.

Paulson got the start and went five innings. She gave up three earned runs on five hits. Golembiewski suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs in two innings.
