MONROE — The Monroe Wrestling Club took 10 wrestlers to the Verona Classic on Sunday, March 6 held at the impressive Verona High School.

This was a competitive 8-man bracket tournament. Results were: Kraig Walter (2009-10, 100-110lbs) 5th place; and Patrick Harms (2009-10, 135-148lbs) 3rd place. Forrest Treuthardt (2001-12, 65-70lbs) 4th place; Blaine Fletcher (2011-12, 69-74lbs) 1st place; and Briggs Hoesly (2011-12, 78-84lbs) 6th place. Colton Ladwig (2013-14, 49-51lbs) 2nd place; Dixon Starr (49-51lbs) 1st place; Briggs Engelkens (2013014, 54-58lbs) 5th place; Charles Pfeifer (2013-14, 63-69lbs) 4th place; and Jaxon Gobeli (2013-14, 72-80lbs) 5th place.

Dodgeville also held a youth tournament on Sunday, March 6 where 4 MWC wrestlers competed.

Results were: Xavier Folk (8u 46-47lbs) 1st place; Decklin Doran (8u 71-77lbs) 2nd place; Isiah Folk (10u 60-64lbs) 1st place; and Ayden Folk (14u 114-125lbs) 5th place.

The MWC wrestlers are preparing for the Youth Qualifiers in Evansville on Saturday, March 19. Wrestlers eligible to compete in the Youth Qualifier must be born in 2007 (not in 9th grade) through 2014. The top 3 place winners in each age/weight class will move on to the Youth State Wrestling Tournament held on March 25-26 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
