MONROE - The accolades keep rolling in for Brodhead senior Carly Mohns and Black Hawk senior Jen Wellnitz.
Mohns has been named second-team Associated Press All-State by a statewide panel of sportswriters Thursday, March 27.
Mohns, a 6-foot-1 Iowa University recruit, led Brodhead to an undefeated regular season that ended with a trip to the WIAA Division 3 state tournament at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon. The Cardinals lost in the state semifinal to Neillsville 51-43.
Mohns averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. She shot 64.5 percent from the field to go along with 4.5 steals and 3.1 assists.
Wellnitz, a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay recruit, was named fourth-team all-state. Wellnitz led the Warriors to a 17-7 season and a run to the sectional semifinals where they lost to Lodi 42-39. Wellnitz, the Six Rivers East Conf-erence Player of the Year, averaged 23.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 6.1 steals per game.
Several area players received honorable mention all-state including Oregon's Maddy Gits, Monona Grove's Taylor Nelson, Barneveld's Rachel Slaney and Hannah Whitish. Slaney and Whitish led Barneveld to an unbeaten season (28-0) and a Division 5 state championship.
