Warriors blast Belmont

SOUTH WAYNE - Two games ago, unbeaten Black Hawk faced a Belmont team that gave them as close a game as they've had all season. What a difference two weeks can make.

The Warriors (10-0) came out firing on all cylinders, establishing the tone on defense and cruised to a 48-0 win in a WIAA Division 7 Level 1 playoff game Friday, Oct. 25.

"Defensively, the kids played lights-out and limited the possessions Belmont had," Black Hawk coach Cory Milz said. "They (Belmont) only had one first down going into the fourth quarter."

Black Hawk quarterback Heath Butler was 15 of 22 with 220 yards and four touchdowns. He was also the team's leading rusher, getting 88 yards on 11 carries and another touchdown.

"Butler had a very good game," Milz said. "He is very accurate and obviously a running threat."

Brett Lovelace caught four passes for 78 yards and a touchdown and Seth Butler had two touchdown receptions and 53 yards on four catches.

Tanner Sweeney caught four passes for 51 yards and rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries.

"The big difference this year is that balance, the ability to throw the ball well and pass well," Milz said. "Most teams try to stop the run and we are able to go over the top with some consistency. We've got weapons all over the field."

Clinton 26, New Glarus-Monticello 14

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights scored the first touchdown of the game but Clinton scored the last two and survived the first round of the Division 4 state playoffs.

New Glarus-Monticello's high powered offense was held to 168 yards as star running back Jim Chenoweth had just 59 yards on 20

carries. Casey Severson led the Knights (5-5) with 79 yards on 18 carries.

"After the first two drives they started owning the line on both sides," New Glarus-Monticello coach Desie Breadon said. "They started blitzing

their linebackers and we missed some assignments. We had a couple mental breakdowns."

Jacob Marchillo rushed for 108 yards on 16 carries and had three touchdowns for the Cougars. The Knights Gavin Binger completed 3 of 8 passes for 68 yards and one touchdown along with three interceptions. Eric Delong intercepted all three of those passes for Clinton.

"The defense made some good plays on the ball," Breadon said. "Chalk it up to them playing well and coming up with those picks."

Lourdes Academy 21, Pec-Argyle 9

The Vikings held Lourdes Academy to their second lowest point total of the season, but were unable to put up enough points of their own.

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Drew Schliem was 14 of 30 passing for 121 yards. Pecatonica-Argyle senior Alec Treuthardt rushed for 80 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown. Treuthardt also had seven receptions for 52 yards.

Pecatonica-Argyle finished the season 7-3.
