U-14 Twisters win tourney

The U-14 girls Rebel Twisters were the champions at the Reddan Thunder Classic Invitational in Verona last weekend. The Twisters defeated Brookfield 2-1 in overtime in the championship game. VERONA - The U-14 girls Rebel Twisters were the champions at the Reddan Thunder Classic Invitational in Verona last weekend.

The girls started the tournament Friday with a 1-0 victory over Rush Wisconsin Black. Anna Latimer was goalie for the game and earned three saves the first half and six in the second half. Taylor Adkins scored the lone goal of the game with an assist by Brynn Ritschard.

Shots on goal in the first half came from Emily Benzschawel, Ritschard, Taylor and in the second half by Heather Burkhalter, Morgan Seffrood, and Ritschard.

The girls then took on Sun Prairie on Saturday and earned a 3-0 win. Latimer had two saves and many shots on goal were taken by Lauren Hlubeck, Benzschawel, Ritschard, Rachel Meier, Adkins, Burkhalter and Seffrood. Amazing defense by Ally Einbeck, Aspen Bader, Kaylynn Conway and Kennedy Ludwig sealed the shut out. The first goal was scored off of a Sun Prairie defender, followed by a goal by Benzschawel and the last goal by Ritschard on an assist by Burkhalter.

On Sunday, they traveled back to Verona to take on Brookfield. The game ended with a 0-0 tie. Latimer had two saves as goalie. This win propelled them to the championships Sunday to take on Middleton. The Twisters had a hard fight ahead of them with five team members absent on Sunday. The girls survived a 10-minute overtime wining 2-1. The first half Benzschawel scored on a penalty kick. Latimer had two saves and Seffrood, Benzschawel and Ritschard all had shots on goal. The second half Middleton scored to tie the game. Latimer had two more saves. The winning goal was scored by Ritschard on an assist by Adkins. Excellent defense by Payton Sigafus, Sydney Mathiason, Einbeck, Burkhalter, and Aspen Bader kept Middleton away from the goal to seal the win for the Rebels.
