Sugar River's girls take home meet

BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River girls track team outdistanced Black Hawk to win the Raider Invite Friday night.

Sugar River outscored Black Hawk 148-98 for the title at the 14 team invite. Sugar River's Jessica Putland won the discus (95 feet, 6 inches) and the shot put (30-1 1/4).

Sugar River's Victoria Ortgiesen finished first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50 seconds, which was 0.6 seconds ahead of teammate Emily Diaz. Ashley Brusveen won the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches).

Sugar River's Madeline Brunner won the long jump (15-8 1/2) and Pecatonica-Argyle's Holly Vlasak was second (14-10 1/2). Pecatonica-Argyle finished fifth as a team, Albany was ninth and Monticello 10th.

Black Hawk's Rachel Rygh won the 100-meter dash (:13.0) and the 200 (:27.3). Black Hawk's Katie Place finished first in the triple jump (32-10 3/4) and third in the long jump (14-7 1/4).

Monticello's Kelsey Bernet won the 1,600 (5:32) and the 3,200 (12:24.4). Black Hawk's Melissa Wellnitz took second in the 400 (1:04.7) and Albany's Jessica Mauerman was third (1:04.8).

The Vikings' 400 relay team finished second in 54.3 seconds.

Sugar River's Alison Schmitz took second in the 800 (2:31.6) Teammate Savanna Atkins took second in the 100 hurdles (:18.9).

The Raiders' 1,600 relay team finished second with a time of 4:20.2.

In the boys meet, Lodi won the invite over Sugar River 145.5-119.

Sugar River senior Travis Beutler won the 1,600 (4:36.3) and Albany's Drew Mather took second (4:38.6). Beutler added a second place finish in the 800 (2:05.8) and Pecatonica-Argyle's Wyatt Massey was third. Dennis Haak won the 3,200 (9:55.2) and Brian Anderson finished first in the 300 hurdles (:42.6).

Monticello's Reid Zanoya won the 200 (:23.6) and took second in the 100 (:11.6) and the long jump (19-11 3/4).

Pecatonica-Argyle's Lucas Stoehr won the 400 (:50.9) by almost two seconds over Lodi's Dylan Hartmann.

The Black Hawk boys track team finished fourth, Albany took seventh, Pecatonica-Argyle was eighth and Monticello was ninth.

Eric Liegel took second in the triple jump (38-2 1/4) for the Raiders. Sugar River's Josh O'Connor finished second in the discus (121-3).

The Raiders had second place finishes in the 800 and 3,200 relays.
