BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River boys track team rode its long distance crew to a double dual track meet sweep of Capitol Conference rivals Marshall and Cambridge on Tuesday.
The Raiders defeated Marshall 97.66-47.33 and Cambridge 96-50. Sugar River was led by Travis Beutler who won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 50.9 seconds and the 3,200 (10:17.11).
Beutler was also a vital cog in the Raiders winning the 3,200 relay. Beutler teamed with Tyler Hefty, Cory Jones and Beau York to win the event with a time of 10:13.6.
Sugar River senior Jeremy McDermott won both the 110 high hurdles (:15.3) and the 300 hurdles (:42.5). McDermott also was a member of the Raiders' winning 1,600 relay. He teamed up with Dennis Haak, Matt Christen and Nick Davis to win the race with a time of 3:48.
Brian Anderson won the 200 (:23.25) and Colton Crye won the discus (117-feet-5-inches).
In the girls competition, Sugar River defeated Cambridge 90-54 and the Raiders tied Marshall at 72.
Victoria Ortgiesen finished first in both the 100 hurdles (:18.5) and 300 hurdles (:52.8). Sugar River senior Tarah Crary finished first in the triple jump with a jump of 29-5.
Alison Schmitz won the 1,600 with a time of 6:11.9. The Raiders' 1,600 relay team of Rachel Miller, Amanda Kaiser, Schmitz and Alex Walters took first with a time of 4:40.2, which was two seconds ahead of Cambridge.
