BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River Raiders opened the postseason with a 6-0 shutout of Cambridge-Deerfield in a WIAA Regional quarterfinal Thursday.
Sugar River, the No. 2 seed, got two goals from junior Michelle Disch and two assists from junior Katie Viney while goalkeepers Natalie Manion and Raylynn Jelle combined for five saves against the sixth-seeded Blue Jays.
Disch gave the Raiders all the scoring they needed on a goal in the fifth minute assisted by junior Hannah Kernen. The score stayed 1-0 until the 44th minute when Kernen connected off a Viney assist to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. The Raiders also got goals from Trisha Boley, MacKenzie Christensen and Sarah Lowery.
Sugar River will face No. 2 seed McFarland Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field in Madison in the Division 2 regional semifinal.
