The Monroe Youth Hockey Squirts (9- and 10-year-olds) lost two of three road games this weekend.
Tyler Johnson scored Monroe's lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Middleton Saturday. Daniel Ward recorded 10 saves in goal for Monroe.
Two hours after their loss at Middleton, the Squirts took the ice at Wisconsin Dells and won, 8-2.
Johnson scored the opening goal on an assist from Emerson Deininger. Johnson then added six more unassisted goals and was credited with an assist on a goal by Kobe Manor. Goalie Jacob Ritschard keyed the victory by turning back 28 shots.
On Sunday, Monroe traveled to Baraboo and lost 7-6.
The Squirts were shut out in the first period while giving up four goals. In the second and third periods, Monroe came back strong, scoring six goals to take a 6-5 lead with nine minutes to go in the final period.
Baraboo, however, put two in the net in the final minutes to secure the win.
Johnson scored three goals and added an assist. Jamaar Manor, Ritschard and Cammi Ganshert each scored a goal as well. Trenten Prien, Deininger and Ritschard were credited with assists. Manor made nine saves as goalie.
