MADISON - There will be more tennis to be played today at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison today for three members of the Monroe High School boys tennis team. The Cheesemakers were victorious in the first round of the Division 2 singles and Division 2 doubles Thursday to advance to today's action that concludes with the quarterfinals.
In the Division 2 singles, Monroe sophomore Taylor Soddy (18-7) defeated senior William Schiefeling (7-10) of Eau Claire Regis, 6-3, 6-3. Soddy will face senior Andrew Hwang of University School of Milwaukee (18-7) today at 11:30 a.m. Hwang drew a first-round bye and is the top seed in Division 2 singles. He was last year's state runner-up in Division 2 singles.
In Division 2 doubles, Monroe's doubles team of seniors Carson Root and Garrett Tschanz (22-3) topped seniors Steven Hofacker and Sean Sayer (14-4) of Eau Claire Regis, 6-1, 6-3. Root and Tschanz will take on freshman Nate Calawerts and sophomore Nick Del Moral (11-0) of Green Bay Notre Dame at 1 p.m. today.
