HIGHLAND - Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore quarterback Drew Schliem threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead the Vikings to a thrilling 21-14 win over Highland Saturday. With the win, the Vikings trail Potosi (6-0) by just one game in the Six Rivers Conference.

Pecatonica-Argyle (5-1) trailed 14-7 to start the fourth quarter. Schliem tossed a 55-yard TD pass to Chris Severson and then intercepted a pass and ran it back to the Vikings' 30-yard line with 24 seconds to go. Schliem hooked up with senior Nathan Loyd on a short pass and he raced 70 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

"To come back from behind and make a couple of big plays with 24 seconds left is a big tribute to our kids for not giving up," Pecatonica-Argyle coach Larry Green said. "Every game you win is a big win. I'm not going to say it's our biggest win."

The Vikings were without senior Jon Hendrickson at quarterback after he was injured last week. He punted, but didn't start at quarterback.

Schliem stepped up and helped the Vikings beat previously conference unbeaten Cardinals. He completed 14-of-22 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Loyd caught four passes for 97 yards and one touchdown.

Alec Treuthardt also had a 20-yard TD pass to Dillon Conwell on a halfback pass.

"For Drew coming in there and doing what he did, I had confidence in him," Green said. "Drew played a great game. That is a great tribute to his confidence and the confidence from the team."

The Cardinals rushed for 279 total yards, but the Vikings forced three turnovers.
