PRAIRIE DU SAC - While some games are decided by key plays or pivotal shots, others can be won or lost at the free-throw line.
Unfortunately for the Monroe girls basketball team, the host Eagles were able to connect at the foul line enough to get a 57-48 victory.
"I thought we did a nice job in handling their (Sauk Prairie's) pressure," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said.
As the Cheesemakers cut the lead down to four in the final quarter, Sauk Prairie was able connect on nine of their game's 23 free throw shots in sealing the victory.
"We played well into the fourth, but to Sauk Prairie's credit, they were just able to knock down their free throws," Mathiason said. The Cheesemakers were led by Whitney Disch and Alacia Keegan, who scored 12 points apiece.
Darlington 50, Pecatonica 33
DARLINGTON - Change can be a good thing, and the Darlington girls basketball team proved that on Tuesday night as they picked up their first win of the season over visiting Pecatonica, 50-33.
After a rough start to the season, coach Kelly Rose and her Redbirds team made a couple of adjustments in preparing for the upcoming week.
"We made some changes this past week," she said. "And altogether I think we showed that tonight."
The Redbirds compiled a 22-11 lead at halftime, and went on to outscore the Vikings 28-22 throughout the remainder of the game.
Taylor Cox led the way for the Redbirds with 14 points. Also contributing for Darlington were Mariah Wiegel (13) and Callie Norton (nine).
Although the outcome was not what his team had hoped for, Pecatonica coach Scott Carlson liked what he saw from his players.
"I thought we ran our offense really well tonight," he said. "We just missed some shots that we should have made, but I thought we improved our play."
Emily Scoville scored 13 points for the Vikings, who will take on Parkview on Saturday.
