HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kent. — The Northern Kentucky men’s basketball team has added another big transfer, as head coach Darrin Horn announced the addition of Cade Meyer from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

A native of Monroe, Wisconsin, Meyer is no stranger to the Norse and the Horizon League, as the 6’ 8” forward has competed for the past two years in the conference.

After a Horizon League All-Freshman team nod in 2021-22, Meyer broke out as one of the rising stars in the league this past season, as he averaged 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest to go with shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 20 blocks.

“Cade is a great addition to the Norse, and we are really excited to add him to our program,” Horn said. “He has already proven to be a productive player at the college level, and it is extremely valuable to add someone with Cade’s experience to our roster. He is a very versatile player with his unique combination of size, physicality, and skill, and we are excited about the impact he can have on both ends of the floor.”

Over his two years with the Phoenix, Meyer posted 598 points, 284 rebounds, 43 assists, 30 rejections and 27 steals. Meyer has been a force with Green Bay in the paint, with good patience and footwork down low to go with being a solid scoring option in the back to the basket and mid-range game. He also has the ability to put the ball on the floor to attack the rim. Meyer dropped a career-best 25 points and pulled down a best 11 rebounds this past season. He finished with 18 games of double-digit points and four contests with double-digit boards.

Prior to Green Bay, Meyer was a standout for Monroe High School where he was named an All-State Honorable Mention to go with being named Second Team All-Conference. In his senior year with the program, he averaged 20.1 points and 9.1 rebounds over 18 contests. He also hit the AAU circuit as he competed with the Wisconsin Playground Club, who were official members of the Under Armour Next Basketball league.

Coming out of high school, Meyer was ranked as the seventh best student-athlete in the state of Wisconsin by 247 Sports. He was also named the Wisconsin Top Senior Post Player by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

The Norse have now completely retooled their forward position as Meyer joins Marquette transfer Keeyan Itejere and returners LJ Wells and Cesar Tchilombo to form what is already a very strong group. Meyer will enter NKU will two years of eligibility remaining.
