MONROE - Several area athletes turned the Monroe Middle School track season into a banner year.
There were six track records broke by eighth graders. Jake Hirsbrunner set a record in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches. Lauren Werth set two new records in the 100-meter run (13 seconds) and in the 200 (27.2 seconds).
Every eighth-grade girls relay record was broke this year. The 400 relay team of Vanessa Studer, Maria Larraga, Gabrielle Ludwig and Werth set a new mark with a time of 53.7 seconds. This same team also set a new mark in the 800 relay with a time of 1 minute, 56.5 seconds.
The 1,600 relay team of Meghan Sampson, Ludwig, Allison Coplien, and Studer created their own new record with a time of 4:35.8.
