Monticello senior Courtney Leuzinger, senior Alyssah Kubly and sophomore Jessie Garrison each went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Potosi scored seven runs in the first inning off Leuzinger on the mound. Leuzinger pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up 12 runs - just three earned on three hits. She struck out 10 and walked two. Garrison came in and pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief. She gave up 12 runs - four earned on eight hits. She struck out two and walked three. Pitchers for the Chieftains walked 15 batters and the Ponies pounded out 15 hits.

"The ball was really slippery," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "Neither pitcher could really throw it."

Monticello (6-3, 3-2 Six Rivers East) committed five errors. The Ponies had a five-run third to take an 11-10 lead. The Chieftains battled back and regained the lead by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the third.

"We didn't want to be there," Garrison said.
