Pee Wee A team gets split

MONROE - The Avalanche U14 girls hockey team hosted Waukesha County Wolves U14 and U12 teams for a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 5. The short Avalanche bench came on strong in the first game against the Wolves' U14 three-line squad to pull out a tie.

Cammi Ganshert dropped in an unanswered goal in the first period with the help of aggressive play from the Avalanche crew. The Wolves came back in the second period with two goals. The third period saw forceful action from both sides of the puck. The Wolves scored again to widen their lead, but Ganshert lit the lamp twice in the third to clinch a 3-3 tie. Both goalies earned 26 saves in the game.

The second game of the day featured an entirely new line of Wolves on the U12 team against the Avalanche ladies. The Avalanche muscled through to earn a 4-3 win. Goals were scored by Ganshert (two goals) and Anika Einbeck (two goals) with an assist by Haley Knauf. The Avalanche had 28 shots on goal while goalie Sara Nicholas had nine saves.



PeeWee A

On Saturday, Jan. 4 the PeeWee A team traveled to Baraboo and won 7-2. Tessa Janecke scored two goals for the Avalanche. The other goals scored by the Avalanche included Luke Kuberski, Charlie Harris, Payton Stauffacher, Cade Janecke and Travis Edmunds. Earning assists were Haley Knauf, Travis Edmunds, Janecke, Kuberski and Payton Stauffacher. Goalie Jayden Johnson had 17 saves.

On Sunday, Jan. 5 the PeeWee A team traveled to Waunakee. The Avalanche fought hard but lost 8-0. Johnson recorded 42 saves.



Pee Wee B

The Monroe Pee Wee B team took to the ice this past weekend taking on two tough non-league teams, the Southwest B team from Verona and the Dubuque Jr. Saints team from Iowa. On Saturday, Jan. 4 the Southwest B team traveled to SLICE arena and showed what they were made of with a late third-period surge to beat the Avalanche 6-2.

The score was 0-0 after the first period. However, in the second period Verona finally found the back of the net twice. Monroe's Colton O'Connor was able to put the puck past Verona's goaltender to make the score 2-1 with seven minutes to go. Unfortunately for the Avalanche, the game unraveled after that goal as Verona scored four unanswered goals in the next four minutes to make the score 5-1 with less than two minutes to go in the game. The Avalanche eventually scored one more goal by Ryan Molitor on assists by Kaiden Klitzke and O'Connor.

Avalanche goaltender Heath Bear recorded 38 saves.

The second game of the weekend for the Pee Wee B team was against the Dubuque Jr. Saints team on Sunday, Jan. 5. Dubuque controlled the game and puck from the start, outshooting the Avalanche 51-13 and rolled to an 11-0 win over Monroe.

Bear recorded 40 saves on the day against a tough team. The Monroe Youth Hockey Pee Wee teams, both A and B travel to Menomonie this weekend for a tournament.



Squirt A

The Avalanche Squirt A team traveled to McFarland on Sunday, Jan. 5 to take on the Spartans A. The Avalanche dominated McFarland Sunday, Jan. 5 and skated to a 4-1 win.

Tessa Janecke opened scoring for the Avalanche. Tessa Janecke and Hayden Roth assisted each other on goals.

Blaze Janecke scored a goal on an assist by Alyssa Knauf. The Avalanche out-shot McFarland 28-13.

Goalie Aiden Runkle recorded 12 saves.



Mite White

The White Mite team hit home ice on Sunday, Jan. 5 after the holiday break and skated to a 4-0 win over the Ice Wolves.

Scoring goals for Monroe were Seth Brandt, Wyatt Janecke, Ethan Rosenstiel and Jaryn Fonseca.

Gavin Roth led the Avalanche with two assists. The other assists for Monroe came from Rosenstiel, Karlee Boll and Breleigh Stuart.

Avalanche goaltender Xander Obert in goal with three saves.

In their second game, the Monroe defense couldn't hold off the Janesville team, losing 2-1. Jaryn Fonseca scored the lone Avalanche goal, unassisted. Obert recorded seven saves.

In the third game of the day, the Avalanche ran out of steam against the Beloit Blades. The Blades controlled the game and outscored the Avalanche 6-0. Obert recorded six saves and Monroe had two shots on goal.
