Pec, Black Hawk net wins

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica Vikings found themselves in three very close games with the Barneveld Eagles Thursday, but the Vikings swept the Eagles 26-24, 25-18, 25-23.

Senior Cassie Swenson slammed six kills and junior Ellie Gifford added 12 assists to lift the Vikings. Senior Elizabeth Ihm contributed three blocks and senior Holly Vlasak came up with six digs plus three aces for Pecatonica.

Barneveld was led by Anne Slaney with seven kills and Krista McSherry with six assists.

Pecatonica is now 5-2 in the Six Rivers East, 7-6 overall, and will travel to South Wayne to face conference leader Black Hawk Tuesday.

Black Hawk 3, Argyle 1

ARGYLE - Another night of volleyball, another win for the Black Hawk Warriors. This time it was their 31st straight conference victory as they stopped the Argyle Orioles 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19.

Senior Kim Wellnitz powered the Warriors (6-0) with 16 kills while junior Alyssa Piefer added 16 assists and senior Katie Place came through with four blocks.

The Orioles (2-5) were paced by junior Kelsey Bartels with five kills and six blocks. Senior Jackie Dammen also had five kills for the Orioles. Senior Stephanie Cuevas had a big night passing the ball to her teammates as she registered 21 assists while senior Lindsay Flanagan and sophomore Micala Peterson each had 14 digs.

Argyle's next match is Thursday when they host Monticello.

Palmyra-Eagle 3, Brodhead 1

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead Cardinals were overpowered by the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers in Rock Valley South Conference action Thursday.

The Panthers' Becky Pronchinski and Jenna McMillan dominated in a 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, win over the Cardinals. Pronchinski had 22 kills and McMillan had 34 assists to lead the Panthers (3-2).

The Cardinals were led by senior Amanda Johnson with 11 kills and junior Megan Krupke with 12 assists. Freshman Brianna Hicks had three blocks and junior Blair Baumgartner had two blocks for Brodhead (2-3).

The Cardinals also got 10 kills and three aces from freshman Amanda Pickel along with four digs from senior Megan Heller.

Brodhead's hosts Big Foot on Tuesday.
