Monticello moves on to face Juda

BLANCHARDVILLE - Sophomore Becky Nelson's two-run double snapped a 3-3 tie and led to a four-run seventh inning as the fifth-seeded Monticello Ponies defeated the fourth-seeded Pecatonica Vikings, 7-3, in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal, Thursday.

The Vikings out-hit the Ponies 10-6 and had the bases loaded in the sixth inning with two outs, but senior Amanda Shoepp flied out to deep center to end the threat. Michelle Francois went 4-for-4 for the Vikings, which end their season 9-11.

Monticello (6-10) will face No. 1 seed Juda Tuesday in the regional semifinal.

Barneveld 14, Black Hawk 6

BARNEVELD - The No. 7 seed Black Hawk Warriors had a major upset on their minds Thursday, but the No. 2 seed Barneveld Eagles rebounded to get a regional quarterfinal win.

Trailing 4-0, Black Hawk scored two runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead on the Eagles. But, Barneveld came back with 10 unanswered runs over the next two innings to capture a 14-6 win over the Warriors.

Black Hawk couldn't overcome five errors and 12 base hits by the Eagles, including four that went for extra bases.

Barneveld improves to 15-10 and will meet Argyle Tuesday in the regional semifinal. Black Hawk closes out their season at 1-15.

Division 3

Lancaster 14, Darlington 0

LANCASTER - For the second straight year, the Darlington Redbirds' softball season came to an end in the regional quarterfinal at Lancaster as the top-seeded Flying Arrows pounded the eighth-seeded Redbirds in five innings Thursday.

Lancaster, a state qualifier last year, scored in every inning highlighted by seven runs in the third. Taylor Holzinger struck out 10 batters and allowed just two Redbirds to reach base.

Junior Emily Hastings reached on an error in the second inning and was left stranded at third, and senior Katie Wiederholt got the Redbirds only hit in the third inning.

Lancaster (20-0) advances to the regional semifinal while Darlington ends its season at 3-17.

Orfordville Parkview 22, New Glarus 0

ORFORDVILLE - The No. 2 seed Vikings dominated from the outset, scoring seven runs in the second and fifth innings to rout the No. 7 seed Glarner Knights Thursday in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal.

Parkview sophomore Rhianna Noble allowed just one hit while the Glarner Knights committed eight errors.

Parkview (14-7) advances to the regional semifinal on Tuesday, while New Glarus finishes the season 0-17.
