STOUGHTON - Justin Gibbons scored three goals to lead Stoughton to an 8-5 win over the Monroe boys hockey co-op on Tuesday.
Monroe freshman Travis Edmunds had two goals, and Monroe senior Tyler Johnson and Belleville senior Cade Martin each had three assists for the Avalanche.
The Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Monroe (0-5, 0-3 Badger South) rallied with a power-play goal by Edmunds on an assist by Johnson at the 13-minute, 1-second mark in the first period. Once the Vikings opened up a 4-1 lead, the Avalanche battled back. Avalanche sophomore Riley Jones of Darlington scored a goal late in the first period, and Edmunds had his second goal at 13:55 on a pass by Martin in the second period to cut the Vikings' lead to 4-3.
"We definitely keep getting better every game," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "This was another tough loss that could have gone either way. Every line played well and our third line scored their first goal."

Stoughton scored two third-period goals to seal the win. Monroe freshman Payton Stauffacher scored the Avalanche's final goal on assists by Johnson and Martin late in the third period.
