DARLINGTON - Monroe won a 19-team, 7-on-7 football passing league tournament on Saturday.
According to Monroe head coach Curt Miller, Monroe advanced through three games of pool play and knocked off Pecatonica-Argyle in the second round of the single elimination bracket. The Cheesemakers, who had a bye in the first round, then defeated Cuba City and Big Foot before taking on Platteville for the championship.
"John Becker had the play of the day," Miller said, "intercepting the final pass of the day to seal a 4-point win in the championship game."
Monroe's first official day of football practice is Wednesday, Aug. 3.
The regular season slate has four home games scheduled, with non-conference games against Badger North rivals Waunakee, DeForest and Mount Horeb. The Cheesemakers finished 2010 with a 2-7 record and will attempt to post its first winning season since 2003.
