MONROE - Waiting for the courts to dry after the rain Thursday was the only obstacle standing in the way of the Monroe girls tennis team.

The Cheesemakers (5-1) breezed to a 7-0 win over Reedsburg. In the day's most dramatic match at No. 1 doubles, Monroe seniors Pam Lehman and Melissa Hill pulled out a decisive third set to defeat the Beavers' No. 1 duo, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.

"In that last set, they just had no remorse," Monroe coach Stephanie Miller said. "They just killed them. They dominated at the net."

Lehman and Hill's perseverance paid dividends.

"They didn't allow themselves to get down if they lost a point," Miller said.

Monroe sophomore Kristin McArdle at No. 1 singles won straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Ellie Shuda at No. 2 singles defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 3 singles, McKenzie Bruce won, 6-0, 6-2. Monroe junior Kiera Berger remained unbeaten at No. 4 singles, defeating her opponent, 6-1, 6-0. The Beavers' No. 4 singles player struggled with her serve and Berger took advantage.

Juniors Ashley Hermanson and Gwen Sutter at No. 2 doubles dominated their match, winning 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, Kelsey Erickson and Taylor Weis used some strong net play and were just as dominant in posting a 6-0, 6-0 win.

"They have done everything I have asked them in every match," Miller said of the Cheesemakers. "They got the job done."
