Monroe holds off Ridgeway

RIDGEWAY - The Monroe Brewers used momentum from a big first inning and overcame a Ridgeway comeback to win 9-6 in a Home Talent Night League game Thursday.

Monroe (6-2) opened up an early lead with a five-run first inning.

Scott White doubled and Mike Cleary drove him in with a single. Rooney Janecke walked and Lon Scheuerell singled. The big hit in the first came from Matt Busjahn, who delivered a two-run single. Busjahn was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs in the contest.

The Brewers pounded out 12 hits. Janecke was 2-for-3, Scheuerell 2-for-3 and Monroe alum Adam Siegenthaler was 2-for-4 with a double.

The Brewers tacked on three runs in the third. Scheuerell singled and Siegenthaler doubled. The key hits in the third were RBI singles by Cody Boals and Busjahn.

Janecke pitched five innings to get the win. He gave up three earned runs on five hits. He struck out one and walked one.

In relief, Cleary pitched out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the seventh by getting the last batter to line into a game-ending double play.

Monroe hosts Platteville at 1 p.m. Sunday.
