BARABOO - Monroe senior Corey Flannery scored two goals and had one assist, but the Cheesemakers lost a non-conference game to Baraboo 4-3 Thursday night.
Monroe (8-7-2, 1-4-1 Badger South) is gearing up for the regional tournament and is expected to find out its seed this weekend.
The Thunderbirds jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Cheesemakers battled back. Flannery scored his first goal on an assist from senior Jesse Keizer at 41 minutes, 18 seconds.
Senior Oliver Lees scored a goal at 67:09 on an assist by Flannery to cut the Thunderbirds' lead to 4-2. Flannery scored his second goal on a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Senior goalkeeper Lucas Koch had nine saves.
"I don't know if it's nerves or what, but we dug a hole," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "Baraboo is a very good team. We got behind a couple of goals and we just came up a little short."
The Cheesemakers were coming off a third place finish at the Lake Geneva Badger tournament. Monroe defeated Lake Geneva Badger 3-2 and Grant Community 5-2. The Cheesemakers lone loss in the tournament came to Big Foot-Williams Bay 2-1.
"It was tough playing three games in two days," Vasquez said.
However, Vasquez said the Cheesemakers are finally getting injured players back.
"We are getting healthy," he said. "We are doing well. We still haven't put together 80 full minutes."
