Warriors stay unbeaten; NGM, Cards, Redbirds lose

PATCH GROVE — It came down to a 2-point conversion, and that’s where the Warriors made their final statement. Unbeaten and top-ranked Black Hawk-Warren knocked off River Ridge 22-20 in a battle for the top spot in the Six Rivers Conference.

The two teams battled back and forth the entire game, with the Warriors scoring with 1:42 left in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard TD run by Cayden Milz, who added the 2-point conversion to make it 22-14.

River Ridge didn’t fold and scored with 28 seconds left on the clock on a 6-yard pass from Cole Crubel to Archie Cooley. The Timberwolves (4-2, 2-2) tried to pass on the 2-point conversion, but failed thanks to the pressure of the Warriors’ defense.

River Ridge took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 41-yard TD run by Crubel. Black Hawk-Warren scored with 8:27 left in the first half on a 1-yard plunge by Jaylen Rufenacht. Ethan Williams connected with Nick Whitcomb on the 2-point conversion to give the Warriors a 14-8 lead.

The Timberwolves then went up 14-8 when Crubel connected with Brayan Barrita on a 61-yard strike, but Williams found Rufenacht for a 23-yard score with just 41 seconds left before halftime. Both teams went into the locker room knotted up at 14.

Williams finished 5 of 11 passing for 61 yards and added another 13 on the ground. Milz had 79 yards on 18 carries for the Warriors, while Rufenacht had 50 yards on 10 touches and Cody Blosch added another 67 yards on 12 rushing attempts. Crubel was 14 of 17 passing for 170 yards.

Black Hawk-Warren (6-0, 3-0) travels to Southwestern (3-3, 2-1) in Week 7.


Aquinas 14, Darlington 0

LA CROSSE — The Redbirds took one on the chin in Week 6, falling to one of the SWAL newcomers.

Aiden Lee scored on a 12-yard run in the first quarter to put Aquinas (5-1, 4-0) on the board, 6-0. Neither team was able to score until Aquinas added to its advantage in the fourth quarter as Gavin Wetzel threw a 36-yard TD pass to Mason Viner.

Wetzel was 7 of 10 passing for 83 yards. Aquinas collected just 134 rushing yards in the contest.

Braden Davis was 6 of 12 passing for 75 yards with an interception for Darlington. Easton Evenstad had 55 yards rushing to lead the Redbirds. Darlington had 199 yards on the ground and 274 total in the game. Aquinas had 217 yards of offense.

Darlington (4-2, 2-2) hosts Fennimore (2-4, 1-3) in Week 7.


East Troy 34, Brodhead-Juda 13

EAST TROY — The Cardinals fell behind 21-0 in the first half and 35-0 in the third quarter before rallying with a pair of touchdowns.

Dalton Naramore scored from a yard out with 7:43 left on the clock, and brother Nick Naramore made it 35-13 with a 3-yard run nearly four minutes later.

East Troy, which had negative rushing in the game, used a combination of defensive interceptions and an electric passing game to jump out ahead of Brodhead-Juda.

The Trojans (4-2, 4-2 Rock Valley) gained 281 yards through the air, as QB Mac Dudkiewicz was 15 of 27 passing with four touchdowns. Dudkiewicz threw touchdown passes of 14, 40, 56 and 75 yards, and running back Braedon Bakken punched in another score with a 2-yard run.

Cade Walker was 4 of 18 passing for 16 yards and two interceptions for Brodhead-Juda (2-4, 2-4). Nick Naramore had 51 yards on the ground on 13 carries, while Dalton Naramore had 39 yards on 11 runs.

The Cardinals will need to beat visiting Whitewater (1-5, 1-5) in Week 7 to keep their playoff hopes alive.


Cambridge 28, New Glarus-Monticello 7

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights fell behind early and couldn’t recover in their Week 6 game Sept. 27.

Jared Marty picked off a Mason Martinson pass in the first quarter and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown to put Cambridge ahead 7-0.

The Blue Jays added to their lead with a 4-yard TD run by Trey Colts early in the second quarter. Conner Siegenthaler scored from 3 yards out to bring New Glarus-Monticello back to within a possession of the lead, but Cambridge added another TD before the half, again Colts on a run from 4 yards out.

In the third quarter, Colts busted loose for a 35-yard TD run to cap the scoring in the game.

Martinson finished 9 of 25 passing for 171 yards. Nathan Streiff had four catches for 101 yards. The Knights gained just 27 yards on the ground on 21 carries. Tyler Curtis led Cambridge with 129 yards rushing on 22 attempts.


Dodgeland 28, Parkview-Albany 12

ORFORDVILLE — The Vikings got out to a one-score lead in the opening quarter when Zac Unseth scampered into the end zone from 38 yards out. 

Dodgeland scored twice in the second quarter, once on a 5-yard rush, and another through the air from 10 yards out.

The Vikings defense allowed two more touchdowns in the third, as Nate Oestreich scored on runs of 54 and 7 yards. Jericko Schwartzlow scored for Parkview-Albany in the fourth on a 43-yard TD run.

Schwartzlow finished the game with 82 yards rushing on six touches. Unseth had 61 yards on nine carries and Korben Brown had 75 yards on 15 tries. Calvin Barlass had two catches for 42 yards. Quarterback Jevon Ferguson was 2 of 14 passing with two interceptions for Parkview-Albany.

Oestreich had 218 yards rushing on 27 carries for Dodgeland (2-4, 1-2 Trailways Large), which finished 3 of 6 passing combined for 20 yards.

Parkview-Albany (0-6, 0-4) travels to conference leader Horicon-Hustisford (5-1, 3-0) in Week 7.
