DARLINGTON — With four individual champions, the Warbirds won their home invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3. Darlington-Black Hawk scored 146.5 points for first, while Pecatonica-Argyle took second with 101.5 points. Parkview-Albany finished fifth with 86.5 points.
Owen Seffrood (145), Breylin Goebel (160), Maddox Goebel (170) and Ross Crist (195) won their respective brackets to lead the Warbirds.
Seffrood went 4-0 with three pins and a 17-5 major decision over second-place finisher Mikel Myadze of Madison East. Sammy Nelson and Emerson Koch of Pecatonica-Argyle took third and fifth, respectively, while Evan Suer of Parkview-Albany took fourth.
Breylin Goebel dominated at 160 with four pins and a technical fall (15-0) over second-place finisher Braxton Weisenburger of Madison East. Jayden Anderson of Parkview-Albany took fifth with his one win a pin of Chance Johnson from Boscobel.
Maddox Goebel also went undefeated at 5-0. All of his victories were by fall, with all but one occurring in the first period. Kyeton Kolb of Pecatonica-Argyle took fifth. His lone win was a pin of Alex Trumm from Boscobel.
Crist pinned both of his opponents for first, but Wesley Egan of Pecatonica-Argyle gave Crist a hard time. The match went to the third period before Crist pinned Egan with 30 seconds left. Egan took second with a pin of Tristen Miller from Mount Horeb-Barneveld.
Pecatonica-Argyle also had four individual champions in Aidan Gruenenfelde (106), Lukas Orloff (113), Jacob Orloff (126) and Levi Paust (220).
Gruenenfelde went 5-0 with four pins — all occurring in the first minute — and one technical fall. Slater Valley of Parkview-Albany took second with three pins and a technical fall over Trinity Steele of Boscobel. Austin Schulte of Darlington-Black Hawk took sixth.
Lukas Orloff took the 113-pound bracket with two falls and two major decisions over second-place Eli Aird of Darlington-Black Hawk (11-3) and third-place Cole Cunningham of Mount Horeb-Barneveld (15-4). All three of Aird’s victories came by fall.
Jacob Orloff took first with three pins. Two of them occurred in the first period, while Orloff’s match against second-place Ian carl Valdes Trejo of Madison East went to the second period. Connor Flippin of Parkview-Albany took third. His lone win came against fourth-place finisher Kaylee Russell of Darlington-Black Hawk.
Although Paust and Riley Mosley of Darlington-Black Hawk both went 2-1, Paust won in the head-to-head match up to take first. Paust pinned Mosley in 2:28 and won by forfeit in his other match. Mosley pinned Modou Ndene of Madison East and won 8-5 against Jarren Weahkee of Boscobel.
Sam Schwengels was the only champion for Parkview-Albany, going 4-0. He defeated second-place Tye Crist of Darlington-Black Hawk by a 7-4 decision, third- and fourth-place finishers with major decisions and a pin of the fifth-place finisher.
In other brackets, Danny Finley (120), Ian Suer (138), Eli Crist (152) and Bryan Lazaro (285) took second, Dawson Miller (285) finished third, Will Doescher (138) fourth and Phillip McGowan (138) and Jean-Luc Cramer (152) in fifth.
On Saturday, Monroe traveled to Janesville Parker for the Cramer Brown Duals. The Cheesemakers went 2-2 with wins over Oregon (39-36) and Kenosha Bradford-Reuther (48-30). Monroe fell to Evansville (54-28) and Janesville Parker (48-36).
Carson Menehan, Jack Dubach and Isaac Bunker all went 4-0 with four pins each. Owen Voegeli and Connor Eckdahl went 3-1 in their first varsity competition, along with Garrett Minder.
Brodhead-Juda participated in the Creek Classic at Johnson Creek on Saturday, Dec. 3, finishing fourth of nine teams with 123 points. Markesan won the invite with 223.5 points.
Marcus McIntyre pinned teammate Joe Lohmar to take the 145-pound title. Emmitt Allen (220) also took second in his respective bracket, falling in the championship match 6-0. Clayton Elliott finished third in the 182-pound bracket.
Darlington-Black Hawk hosted Riverdale in a dual on Thursday, Dec. 1 where the team fell 50-18. Seffrood and Ross Crist were the only wrestlers to record pins, while Breylin Goebel and Aird won by 10-5 and 7-0 decisions, respectively.
Parkview-Albany also had a home dual on Thursday against Turner, where the team fell 51-25. Valley, Egan and Lexi Hanson all pinned their opponents for six points each. Schwengels added four points with a 12-4 major decision, and Danny Finley scored three points with a 10-3 decision.
Sugar River will host the Raider Scramble on Saturday, Dec. 10 with eight teams participating: Sugar River, Brodhead-Juda, Deerfield, Dodgeville, Evansville, Monroe, Reserves and the Lincoln Academy. Sugar River and Monroe are scheduled to bring the most wrestlers with 28 and 26, respectively. Brackets for 132, 138 and 220 will be the largest with an eight-man scramble format.
