WHITEWATER — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW) men’s track and field team began its indoor season over the weekend and starts the 2024 season with three home meets over a four-week span.
Charlie Wiegel, a 2023 Monroe graduate, and Rhett Reuter, a 2022 Darlington graduate, are on the UWW roster.
The Warhawks finished third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at both the indoor and outdoor championship meets in 2023. The team tied for eighth at the NCAA Indoor Championships and placed seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Distance runner Christian Patzka captured a pair of individual national titles last spring, winning the indoor 5,000-meter run and the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Head coach Mike Johnson enters his 17th season leading both the men’s and women’s programs. The Warhawk men have finished among the top 10 at 17 national meets (10 indoor, seven outdoor) during Johnson’s tenure.
The Warhawks began the 2024 season Saturday, Jan. 20 by hosting the Karl Schlender Invitational. The team continues action at Kachel Fieldhouse Friday, Jan. 26 at the “Squig” Converse Invitational. For the full 2024 schedule, visit https://uwwsports.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/schedule.
