McFARLAND — The Sugar River track and field co-op sent 12 individuals and three relays to the Division 2 Sectional at McFarland on Thursday, May 25, and six of those individuals and two relays qualified for State. 

Carter Scholey and Alex Atwell won their individual events to become sectional champions. Scholey ran the 3200-meter in 9:39.35, and Atwell finished the 100-meter hurdles in 15.53.

Jack Erickson competed in three individual events and made the top four in two of them, thus qualifying for state. He took fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.19) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (41.14). 

In two individual events, DeMarcus Conner advanced in one of them. He took fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.75.

Lawrence Vasquez made the most of his lone entry in sectionals, taking second in the high jump with a height of 6-02.00.

On the girls side, Grace Nommensen took fifth in the 100-meter dash preliminaries and jumped one spot to qualify for state with a time of 12.87. She worked with Gracie Atkinson, Herioli Fraire and Atwell in the 4x100 relay to take second (50.63). The same group, substituting Frairie for Addison Disch, took third in the 4x200 relay (1:47.00). 

Monroe qualified 15 individuals and six relays for sectionals, with four individuals and two relays moving on. 

Kaden Kuester nabbed the final qualifying spot in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.65, while James Seagreaves took third in the high jump (6-00.00). The boys 4x100 relay team, comprised of Ben Gatdula, Charlie Wiegel, Broderick Cornfield and Gavin Foulker, also qualified with its third-place time of 43.92.

For the girls, Aleigh Zettle recorded a height of 10-00.00 in the pole vault for fourth, while Lauren Coppes took third in the long jump with a distance of 16-10.75. The girls 4x400 relay, composed of Aniyah Jackson-Bey, Miley Hanson, Coppes and Zettle, qualified for state by 0.001 seconds with a time of 4:08.05. 

Of 12 Brodhead-Juda individuals that qualified for sectionals, five of them advanced to state.

Kalena Riemer won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.59. She also took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.74. 

Kirsten Fish will also qualify in two events at state, as she took fourth in the shot put (35-05.75) and third in the discus (115-06). Teammate Onni Williams also advanced in the shot put, taking second (35-11.75). 

For the boys, Blake Matthys took third in the shot put (50-05.00), while Tegan Pinnow tied for third with Seagreaves in the high jump with a leap of 6-00.00.
