Six Rivers East honors boys, girls players

MONTICELLO — Seniors Grace Ganshert (Argyle) and Brianna Dahl (Albany) were named the Six Rivers East girls basketball Co-Players of the Year for their strong season on the hardwood this winter. The league’s Coach of the Year was split between Black Hawk’s first-year coach Cora Holland and Albany’s Derik Doescher.

Ganshert averaged a double-double all season, after switching from guard to forward due to the injury of teammate Tori Lantz. Ganshert averaged 19.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She was joined on the first team by teammate Maggie Godfrey (15.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 89 blocks).

Brianna Dahl was second in the league in scoring (16.2 ppg), while leading the conference in steals (5.2). 

Black Hawk senior Tara Wellnitz (14.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg) and Monticello’s Ellie Gustafson (Jr.) were also first-team picks.

Second team players included Albany’s Alana Durtschi (So.), Black Hawk’s Raylin Peterson (Jr.), Barneveld’s Shelbi Marx (Jr.) and Pecatonica seniors Lexi Peterson and Tessa Green.

Honorable mention included Argyle’s Alyssa Stadola (Sr.), Albany’s Kaiya Zurfluh (Sr.) and Payton Wachholz (Sr.), and Black Hawk’s Tatum Baumgartner (Sr.), Monticello’s Sarah Brokopp (Sr.) and Dalana Trumpy (Fr.), Pecatonica’s Nivaeh Gross (Sr.), Juda’s Anna Skoumal (Sr.) and Libby Jordan (Sr.), and Barneveld’s Elle Pechan (Jr.) and Emma Gordon (Sr.).

In boys basketball, Barneveld senior Chase Ignatius was named the Six Rivers East Player of the Year, and Monticello coach Mark Olson was honored as Coach of the Year. Ignatius averaged 19.7 points per game this season, while Olson led the Ponies to a perfect 12-0 record in league play en route to the conference title.

Seniors Aaron Makos (Juda), Evan Guenther (Monticello) and Kegun Brunker (Pecatonica) joined Ignatius and Barneveld sophomore Kasey Helgeson on the first team.

Second team honors went to Carson Brewer (So., Albany), Kaden Hartwig (Sr., Argyle), Lucas Milz (Jr., Black Hawk), Jackson Eyler (Jr., Monticello) and Hunter Enloe (Sr., Pecatonica).

Honorable mention picks included Albany’s Tyler Anderson (Sr.), Argyle’s Willie Helfvogt (So.), Barneveld’s Ryan Gust (Jr.), Black Hawk’s Dayton Burmeister (Sr.), Dempsey Schliem (Sr.), Elijah Shelton (Sr.) and Nathan Figi (Sr.), Juda’s Mason Kammerer (Sr.), Monticello’s Brayden Ryan (Sr.) and Ryer Indergand (So.), and Pecatonica’s Coy Ruegsegger (Jr.).
