KOHLER — Over a two-day stretch, sophomore Alex Ruetten compiled a 181 to finished 23rd in the Division 3 boys golf state tournament at Blackwolf Run Golf Course.

He shot an 87 on day one, positioning himself tied for 17th. With a 94 on day two, he dropped to 23rd.

“It was really cool and a great experience,” Ruetten said. “The course is in really nice shape. I didn’t play the best, but I had a lot of fun.”

Ruetten’s team, Argyle-Pecatonica, was 11 shots from qualifying for the tournament. It’s entire varsity lineup returns next season, and Ruetten’s state experience will help them take that next step.

“Hopefully the next few years I can bounce off of that and play better,” Ruetten said. “It’s the experience of calming your nerves and not caring about anything else and just playing.”

Cambridge took the team title with a score of 657. Its No. 1 golfer, Kian Bystol-Flores also took the individual title, carding a 153. SWAL competitor Mineral Point took second with a 687.
