DARLINGTON — The Redbirds struggled on the links in 2021, scoring just 12 points in SWAL competition and placing ninth in the WIAA Division 2 Regional at House on the Rock in Spring Green with a score of 504. As a collective, Darlington averaged a team score of 253.7 per nine holes, and 540.8 per 18.
Fortunately for the Redbirds, there were no seniors, thus every returning letterwinner will have a chance at improving upon their efforts last spring.
Those returning include juniors Austin Fort, Oscar Thuli, Daniel Belanger and Pedro McComish, as well as sophomore Phillip McGowan.
In the regional, Thuli led the way with a 115 overall score, tied for 33rd out of 44 competitors and 16 shots off sectional qualifying. McCormish carded a 126 that day, while McGowan had a 131 and Belanger a 132.
Mineral Point is the defending SWAL champion and qualified for state, and is looked at throughout the conference as the favorite again in 2022. Fennimore and Argyle-Pecatonica are also expected to serve up quality competition in league play as well. Fennimore, like Mineral Point, also qualified to state as a team.
