BELLEVILLE — The Sugar River Raiders capped their conference championship season with a rousing 3-0 victory over Lakeside Lutheran Oct. 15.

“A tough final conference game,” Sugar River coach Kyle Webber said.

Jack Gentilli put the Raiders on the board in the fifth minute with a shot from outside the 18-yard box.

Sugar River would go into halftime with the score still 1-0, but in the 52nd minute of the second half Jaden Kreklow would find Gentilli for a second goal.

“Jaden Kreklow beat a defender down the endline and slotted a beautiful pass to Gentilli for the finish,” Webber said.

Sugar River’s final goal came in the 79th minute off the foot of Connor DeLorme on a penalty kick after Lakeside Lutheran was called for a handball in the box.

Lakeside Lutheran was unable to match up against Sugar River’s defense all night, getting just three shots on goal. Lutz had two saves and Kreklow had a save. The Raiders put 17 shots up against Lakeside Lutheran goalkeeper William Bushie, who had 14 saves in the loss.

Sugar River finished the regular season with a 12-1-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 conference record, capturing the Capitol crown. Lakeside Lutheran finished 7-8 overall and 5-4 in the Capitol.

The Raiders earned a No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the WIAA Division 3 playoffs and were scheduled to play Thursday against Mauston, the 13th seed. The winner will play today against either Whitewater (12) or Platteville-Lancaster (5). In a previous regular season matchup on Oct. 6 Sugar River and Platteville-Lancaster played to a 0-0 tie in Platteville.
