MONTICELLO — The Ponies hosted their annual Six Rivers tournament Aug. 31 with East and West teams Benton, River Ridge, Belmont, Albany, Pecatonica, Barneveld and Shullsburg and outlier Wayland Academy. 

After two pool play games, teams were divided into three brackets — gold, silver and bronze. 

Pecatonica won the silver bracket with wins over River Ridge and Benton. The Vikings were 4-1 on the weekend, with their lone loss to Belmont in pool play.

Key players included Loretta Tisch (15 aces, 18 kills, 10 assists), Madelyn Cleary (17 kills, 2 blocks, 2 assists), Diana Hendrickson (9 aces, 1 block), Aleah Harris (5 aces, 7 kills, 3 blocks), Mikaela Gross (8 kills, 2 assists) and Lila Schlimgen (2 aces, 2 kills, 14 assists).

Monticello won the bronze bracket with wins over Wayland Academy and Albany.


MONROE TOURNAMENT

MONROE — The Cheesemakers hosted their annual beginning-of-the season tournament with Darlington, New Glarus, Mount Horeb, Watertown Luther Prep and Wisconsin Heights.

Watertown Luther Prep went undefeated and Mount Horeb was the runner-up. New Glarus defeated Monroe for its lone win, while the Cheesemakers were 0-5.

There was an all-tournament team voted on by coaches and officials. It consisted of

● Kennedy Myers, Mount Horeb

In other local volleyball Brodhead went 0-5 in the Janesville Craig Invite Aug. 30-31. They fell to Baraboo twice 2-0 and Janesville Craig twice 2-1. 

They will host nine teams in a tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7 — New Glarus, Monroe, Parkview, Albany, Mineral Point, Evansville, Turner, Juda and Monticello. 

Argyle fell to River Falls 2-0 in the Highland Jamboree Aug. 31.
